LISBON 09 July 2018 – The piano concert of Dr. Raul M. Sunico Concerto em Lisboa” highlighted the Philippine Embassy in Lisbon’s month-long celebration of the 120th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine independence.
The piano concert was held at the auditorium of the Fundação Museu Oriente, to a large crowd of 300 people. The special guest of the Embassy for the concert was Fundação Oriente President Dr. Carlos Monjardino.
Also present were the leaders and members of the Filipino Community in Portugal, members of the Diplomatic Corps, representatives of the Portuguese Government, the academe, and friends of the Embassy.
Dr. Sunico played before an audience who marveled at the fact that the famed pianist played continuously with only a 15-minute break during the entire concert, featuring very complex piano pieces of Rachmaninoff and Chopin. He also played Scenas Portuguezas, op.9 no.1 (Cantiga d’Amor), one of the traditional, popular pieces close to the hearts of the Portuguese people.
Dr. Sunico also charmed Filipinos in the audience with his Filipino pieces Kundiman, Bato sa Buhangin, and Hanggang sa Dulo ng Walang Hanggan.
Guests were treated to an array of Filipino cocktail food during a reception that followed after the concert.
The piano concert was made possible with the support of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA). The Embassy, through Ambassador to Portugal Celia Anna M. Feria, is very grateful for the continued support of the NCCA for its many cultural activities organized in Portugal. END
