Flag-Raising, Pinoy Games Highlight Independence Day Celebration in Brasilia

BRASILIA 13 July 2018 – Ambassador to Brazil Marichu B. Mauro proudly raised the Philippine flag during a ceremony to mark the 120th anniversary of Philippine independence with the Filipino Community in Brasilia.

Ambassador Mauro addressed the Filipinos in attendance with a short speech on Kalayaan 2018's theme “Pagbabagong Ipinaglaban, Alay sa Masaganang Kinabukasan.”

Consul General Ariz Convalecer read the message of Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter S. Cayetano.

Ambassador Mauro also honored the contribution of Menchu Corbitt to the Community with a Plaque of Appreciation from the Embassy. Corbitt supported the development of Filipino women in Brasilia through workshops in improving their skills.

After the official ceremony, the Embassy led the community in fun and games, and a simple Filipino lunch was partaken by all. END
