121 Years of PH Independence Feted in Argentina

BUENOS AIRES 23 June 2019 — The Philippine Embassy in Buenos Aires hosted a diplomatic reception in commemoration of the 121st Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence on 12 June 2019 in Casa Museo Victoria Ocampo in Barrio Parque, Buenos Aires.
Ambassador to Argentina Linglingay F. Lacanlale welcomed around 120 guests to the occasion, which included Argentine officials, members of the diplomatic corps, businessmen, members of the academe and media, and leaders of the Filipino community in Argentina.
Among those who attended where the Ambassadors from the ASEAN member countries, United States, Russia, Canada, Australia, and Germany, among others.
In her remarks, Ambassador Lacanlale said, “Today, the Philippines faces the challenge of achieving a sustainable, and inclusive economic growth to eradicate extreme poverty in the country in a safe and secure environment.”
The Ambassador cited the progress made by the Philippine Government towards this goal of reducing poverty by creating more and better jobs, managing disaster risks, improving productivity, and investing in education, health and nutrition.
Ambassador Lacanlale said that in a more interconnected world, the Philippines recognizes the need to diversify its relations with non-traditional partners, including Argentina. She noted that Philippine-Argentine relations have been growing strong in the 71 years of Philippine-Argentine bilateral relations.
Buenos Aires-based Filipina singer Maria Katrina Teves sang the Philippine and Argentine national anthems a cappella, to the delight of the guests. She followed this with a performance of the contemporary Filipino song, Pagdating ng Panahon by Aiza Seguerra, and the quintessential Argentine love song Jamas te Olvidaré by Marcela Morelo.
Chef Christina Sunae, who is the leading proponent of Southeast Asian and Filipino cuisine in Buenos Aires, served Filipino food from different parts of the country, including Mindanao, accompanied by Filipino artesanal liqueurs. END
