PH Embassy in Yangon Celebrates 121st Philippine Independence with the Filipino Community

YANGON 28 June 2019 – The Philippine Embassy in Yangon, Myanmar, in cooperation with Pilipinas.MM, celebrated the 121st Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence with the Filipino community in Yangon on 16 June 2019 at the Grand Mercure Yangon Golden Empire Hotel.
Philippine Ambassador to Myanmar Eduardo E. Kapunan, Jr. delivered the Independence Day message of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to overseas Filipinos while Third Secretary and Vice Consul Stephanie Alexis A. Cruz delivered the Independence Day message of Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro L. Locsin, Jr.
World-renowned choral group Philippine Madrigal Singers entertained the Filipinos with original Pinoy music such as “Kruhay”, a Filipino folk song that originated from Panay Island; “Gaano Kita Kamahal”, a popular love song; and “Da Coconut Nut”, a crowd favorite.
The celebration, attended by around 200 Filipinos, also featured performances from urban pop artist Young JV, and other Filipino performing artists in Yangon.
Attendees feasted on Filipino cuisine such as chiken inasal, pork sisig, guinataang gulay, pansit palabok, leche flan and turon prepared by the chefs of Grand Mercure Hotel. The program culminated with special awards conferred on Pinoy Masterchef JR Royol, the Philippine Madrigal Singers, and the various sponsors of the event. END
