PH Embassy in Prague Celebrates Philippine Independence

PRAGUE 08 July 2019 – The Philippine Embassy in Prague, led by Ambassador to Czech Republic Ombra T. Jainal held a flag-raising ceremony and a diplomatic reception to commemorate the 121st Anniversary of the Declaration of Philippine Independence at the Embassy Chancery on 12 June 2019.
In his welcome remarks, Ambassador Jainal highlighted the significant growth in the bilateral relations between the Philippines and the Czech Republic, citing the successful holding of the Inaugural Meetings of the Joint Economic Committee and the Joint Defense Committee during the first half of 2019.
Ambassador Jainal also announced the forthcoming exhibition entitled: Hibla ng Lahing Filipino Travelling Exhibition in July 2019. The exhibition is a joint venture by the National Museums of the Philippines and the Czech Republic, together with the Office of Senator Loren Legarda, with the continued support and assistance of both the former and current Czech Ambassadors to the Philippines Jana Šediva and Jaroslav Olša. He also mentioned the possibility of the exchange of visits of both countries’ Foreign Affairs Secretaries.
Ambassador Jainal offered a toast to the success of of both countries’ leaders and to the enduring friendship between both the Philippines and the Czech Republic as exemplified by Dr. Jose Rizal’s friendship with Czech educator, Professor Ferdinand Blumentritt.
Speaking on behalf of the Czech Republic Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Junior Deputy Minister and Director of the American Department Veronika Kuchyňová Šmigolová extended her congratulations to the Philippines on its 121st anniversary of Independence.
In her remarks, Ms. Šmigolová reiterated the enhanced bilateral relations between the two countries and mentioned the lasting friendhip of Dr. Rizal and Professor Blumentritt.
Czech Ambassador to the Philippines Jana Šediva, who is currently in the country, congratulated the Philippines and hoped that the bilateral relations between both countries will continue to grow especially during her term as the Czech Republic’s representative to the Philippines.
Around 150 guests attended the event, including members of the diplomatic corps, officials from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Industry, Culture, and other government agencies, as well as members of the buisness community in the Czech Republic.
Filipino food and beverage were served to the guests, such as beef lumpia, dried mangoes, banana chips and Philippine mango juice. Guests were also treated to a mini exhibit featuring Filipino handicrafts, furniture, textiles and other Filipino accessories showcased during the event. END
