PH Embassy in Brasilia Hosts Gala to Celebrate National Day

BRASILIA 12 July 2019 — The Philippine Embassy in Brasilia played host to about 400 members of the diplomatic corps and Brazilian government officials during a gala dinner in celebration of the 121st Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence on 12 June 2019 at the Embassy grounds in Brasilia.
The Embassy grounds, the biggest Philippine government-owned property abroad, was transformed into a lavish party venue to entertain all the guests who also included members of various civic organizations and business corporations.
Guest of honor was Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Deputy Minister for Asia and the Pacific Ambassador Reinaldo Salgado.
In his remarks, Ambassador Salgado emphasized the important role that the Philippines play in the Southeast Asian region. He also highlighted that the Philippines is Brazil´s very first and the oldest partner in Asia.
Ambassador Salgado joined Ambassador to Brazil Marichu Mauro in the symbolic cutting of the cake featuring the flags of the Philippines and Brazil to signify the very close relationship of the two countries.
For her part, Ambassador Mauro acknowledged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ support of the Embassy´s initiative, which saw the bilateral ties between the two countries strengthen since her arrival in Brazil last year.
Ambassador Mauro delivered her speech entirely in Portuguese to the delight of the Brazilians.
A group of Filpinos and Brazilians sang the national hymns of Brazil and the Philippines, while the dance troupe composed of teenagers performed traditional Filipino dances. The official program ended with a fireworks display. END
