MACAU 12 June 2022  — The Philippine Consulate General in Macau SAR commemorated the 124th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence on 12 June 2022 with a flag raising and wreath laying ceremony attended by all personnel and its attached agencies and dependents.

The prevailing health protocols in Macau SAR as advised by the concerned authorities compelled Post to host a simple gathering limited to its immediate members. This is the third year of subdued national day celebrations by Post owing to the health crisis.

The program included the showing of the Independence Day video messages of President Rodrigo R. Duterte and Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro L. Locsin, Jr. and a short message from the Philippine Consul General to Macau Porfirio M. Mayo, Jr. Thereafter selected Consulate personnel rendered patriotic and iconic songs.

The celebration featured a short film entitled ”Estado” produced by Click PH Production, a group of Macau-based Filipino workers excelling in the production of short independent films. The film juxtaposes the two different standards of living of two families amidst the pandemic. Their state or “estado” depicted resilience, and towards the end, intersected into a display of the innate kindness of humanity.

Two Filipino organizations held national day commemoration in the afternoon which was co-hosted by Consul General Mayo and the cultural attaché. The occasion also presented an opportunity to meet with Chinese businessmen who were interested in visiting the Philippines to look at business prospects particularly in the area of environmental infrastructure.
