BEIJING 13 June 2022 — Philippine Embassy in Beijing, China conducted a series of activities on 12 June 2022 in commemoration of the 124th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence with the theme, “Pagsuong sa Hamon ng Panibagong Bukas (Rise Towards the Challenge of a New Beginning).”

Personnel of the Philippine Embassy and Partner Agencies gathered at the chancery in Beijing in the morning of 12 June for a flag-raising ceremony, joining the official commemorative activities in Manila and other parts of the Philippines as well as other Philippine foreign service posts. Philippine Chargé d’affaires, a.i. to China Dinno M. Oblena led the wreath laying before the bust of National Hero Dr. Jose Rizal at the chancery.

The Embassy launched an online Independence Day presentation for members of the Filipino Community in China and Mongolia and ASEAN Embassies in Beijing. The presentation, produced by the Embassy in cooperation with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), showcased the ardent patriotism of the Filipinos through a reading of Dr. Rizal’s sonnet titled “To The Philippines” (as translated by National Artist for Literature Nick Joaquin) and the rich culture of the Philippines through a number of folk dances performed by the acclaimed Ramon Obusan Folkoric Group.

In his Independence Day message, CDA Oblena emphasized the significance of the occasion in the Filipinos’ aspiration for the betterment of the Philippines and in keeping the spirit of patriotism alive. He acknowledged the collective sacrifices and continued efforts of Filipinos in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. He concluded his speech with a reminder to face the new chapter in the history of the nation and a call to rise above whatever challenges that may come. END
