PH Embassy Commemorates PH Independence Day in Ankara, Türkiye

ANKARA 17 June 2022 – The Philippine Embassy in Ankara commemorated the 124th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence on 12 June 2022 at the Embassy grounds.
Philippine Ambassador to Türkiye Maria Elena P. Algabre led the morning’s ceremony, with the theme, “Kalayaan 2022: Pagsuong sa Hamon ng Panibagong Bukas” (Rise Towards the Challenge of a New Beginning). Members of the Philippine Embassy, including the Office of the Philippine Defense and Armed Forces Attaché, and their family members, and members of the Filipino community joined the event.
The celebration began with a flag-raising ceremony and the singing of the Philippine national anthem, followed by a wreath laying at the bust of Philippine national hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal.
The Independence Day messages of Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and Secretary of Foreign Affairs Teodoro L. Locsin Jr. were read by Ambassador Algabre and, Third Secretary and Vice Consul Marc Theodore P. Benigno, respectively.
Following the ceremony, the guests were invited to a simple Filipino breakfast of tapsilog (dried cured beef with fried rice and egg) and daing (sun-dried fish). The guests enjoyed their meal while watching a video documentary on the history of the Philippine flag, in observance of the National Flag Days from 28 May to 12 June 2022. END
