YANGON 20 June 2022 — The Philippine Embassy in Yangon commemorates the 124th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence on 12 June 2022 with a flag-raising ceremony, a mass, and salu-salo for the Filipino Community.
The Philippine Embassy officers, staff and local hires, together with the members of the Filipino Community, attended the ceremony with the singing of the National Anthem and recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag at the Embassy grounds.
After the flag ceremony, the Holy Mass was officiated by Cardinal Charles Maung Bo, SOB, Yangon’s Archbishop at the Saint Augustine Parish, where most Filipinos hear Mass each Sunday. A Filipino Choir rendered songs, and prayers were offered for the Philippines, its leaders and OFWs. At the same time, Cardinal Bo underscored the importance of healing and reconciliation of communities and unity and peace in all countries, including Myanmar.
With Myanmar’s recent lifting of COVID-19 restrictions imposed in 2020, the Philippine Embassy hosted the Filipino Community’s Fellowship at the Saint Augustine Parish Community Hall that gave opportunity for Filipinos to gather socially in a large group since the pandemic hit Myanmar. Filipinos expressed delight to again meet and engage with kababayans, enjoy Filipino food, and celebrate PH's Independence Day. The Community's solidarity during the brief but meaningful salu-salo buoyed the spirits of the Filipinos present during the event. END
