VIENTIANE 21 June 2022 — On the occasion of the 124th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine independence, the Philippine Embassy in Vientiane, led by Philippine Ambassador to the Lao PDR Deena Joy D. Amatong, organized a week-long celebration at the Crowne Plaza Vientiane from 12 to 19 June 2022.
Philippine furniture and decor by notable designers such as Kenneth Cobonpue and Zarah Juan were displayed at the lobby of the Crowne Plaza. Filipiniana pieces by Avel Bacudio, Filip+Inna, Vania Romoff and Ditta Sandico were also displayed at the hotel lobby.
Philippine food was served as part of the breakfast buffet of the Mosaic Restaurant, while a deconstructed kare-kare was featured in the lunch and dinner menu of the 3 Merchants restaurant as the Filipino Week special.
The Embassy’s week-long celebration started on June 12 with a flag raising ceremony for the Filipino community followed by a Filipino breakfast at the chancery. On June 15, the Embassy organized a diplomatic reception at the Crowne Plaza Vientiane where Filipino cuisine and beverages such as San Miguel Beer and Don Papa Rum were served. On June 18, the Philippine Week ended with a networking event at the Beer Garden, also at the Crowne Plaza, where San Miguel beer and Filipino snacks were served.
The Philippines and the Lao PDR established diplomatic relations on 14 January 1955. Laos is home to almost 2,000 Filipinos, most of whom work as teachers and professionals. END
