PH Consulate General in Dubai Holds Independence Day Flag Ceremony

DUBAI 27 June 2022 – The Philippine Consulate General in Dubai held a simple flag- raising ceremony in commemoration of the 124th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence on 11 June 2022 at the chancery.

The ceremony was attended by Philippine Consul General to Dubai and Northern Emirates Renato N. Dueñas, Jr. as well as all personnel of the Consulate.

The simple program, which was hosted by Cultural Officer Ms. Jomarie Pabilla, started with the singing of the national anthem followed by the reciting of the pledge of allegiance to the flag. There was also an invocation which had Christian and Muslim prayers. This was followed by the playing of the video messages of Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro L. Locsin, Jr.and President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.To cap off the program, an awarding of certificates of commendation to the Consulate personnel who contributed to the success of the 2022 Overseas Elections in Dubai and the Northern Emirates was also held.

In his Independence Day message, Philippine Consul General to Dubai Renato N. Dueñas, Jr. underscored the relevance of the theme, “Pagsuong sa Hamon ng Panibagong Bukas” which translates to “Rise Towards the Challenge of a New Beginning.” He extolled the resilience of the Consulate’s officers and staff in the face of pandemic and their remarkable contribution to the country, particularly in the successful conduct of the National Elections for Overseas Voters in Dubai and Northern Emirates from 10 April to 09 May 2022 in which the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai had the highest number of voters among all Philippine foreign service posts. This achievement is a testament to the dedication and professionalism of the Consulate’s personnel. The ceremony was concluded by a salu-salo breakfast of Filipino food.

The simple ceremony is in line with the observance of the 40-day mourning period in the UAE, in respect to former UAE President and ruler of Abu Dhabi, His Excellency Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. END
