PH Embassy in Stockholm Hosts a Diplomatic Reception to Commemorate 124thAnniversary of PH Independence

STOCKHOLM 09 June 2022  The Philippine Embassy in Stockholm hosted a diplomatic reception to commemorate the 124th Anniversary of the Independence of the Philippines on 08 June 2022 at the Historiska Museet. The event was also occasioned to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of the Philippines and the Kingdom of Sweden.

The event was attended by Heads of Missions, other members of the diplomatic corps in Stockholm, representatives from Sweden’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), representatives of the private sector, as well as selected members of the Filipino Community. 

During her remarks, Ambassador Isleta highlighted how the recent national elections carried out in the Philippines, the post-pandemic recovery plans of the international community, and reopening of the Philippines and Sweden’s embassies fit well with this year’s Independence Day them of Pagsulong sa Hamon ng Bagong Bukas (Rising Towards the Challenge of a New Beginning).

Ambassador Kvarnström, in his remarks, noted that the Smart City concept is one of the key area for cooperation that the Philippines and Sweden may cooperate in as well as in issues in multilateral fora including climate change, ASEAN-EU dialogue, and the post-pandemic recovery. He also expressed appreciation for the Philippinesvoting in favour of the United Nations General Assembly’s Resolution on Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine.

The guests were treated to the musical genius and stylings of Dr. Raul Sunico, who performed classical pieces such as Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Prelude in C-sharp minor, op. 3 no. 2 and Prelude in G-minor, op. 23 no. 5; Frédéric Chopin’s Waltz in A-flat, op. 34 no. 1 and Polonaise in A-flat major, op. 53; Franz Liszt’s Liebestraum; Liszt’s and Richard Wagner’s Liebestod; and Filipino classics such as Bato sa BuhanginKumintang, and Bayan Ko. Dr. Sunico’s presence was made possible with the support of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA). 

Guests were also served with delectable sweets prepared by 2021 S. Pellegrino Young Chef Academy Competition winner, Filipino-Swedish Chef Jerome Ianmark Calayag. The Embassy likewise featured two of the Filipino liquors which have recently penetrated the Swedish government-owned retail store Systembolaget, Don Papa Rum and ARC Botanical Gin, as well as liquor from Destileria Limtuaco. END
