PH Embassy in Brunei Honors Filipino Community in National Day Reception

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN 25 June 2022 — The Philippine Embassy in Brunei led by Philippine Ambassador Marian Jocelyn R. Tirol-Ignacio celebrated the 124th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence with the Filipino community in Brunei on 25 June 2022 at its newly constructed Consular Annex in the Diplomatic Enclave.
In her remarks, Ambassador Tirol-Ignacio expressed her gratitude and appreciation for the support and goodwill extended by members and organizations of the Filipino community in Brunei to the Embassy’s programs and projects.
In particular, she mentioned the food assistance programs implemented by the Embassy in 2020 and 2021 during the two waves of the COVID-19 pandemic in Brunei through the 2,823 food packages donated by the Filipino community to fellow Filipinos whose jobs were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The donations were made in addition to the support provided by the Ministry of Health to affected individuals.
The highlight of the evening was the awarding of certificates of appreciation to members and organizations of the Filipino community for their contributions to the Embassy’s food assistance programs.
The program also included the reading of the Independence Day messages of the Secretary of Labor and Employment Silvestre H. Bello III, Secretary of National Defense Delfin N. Lorenzana, and Secretary of Foreign Affairs Teodoro L. Locsin, Jr. for Overseas Filipinos by Labor Attaché Ms. Melissa C. Mendizabal, Defense and Armed Forces Attaché Colonel Angelo Gerard P. Ariles, and Minister and Consul General Pete Raymond V. Delfin, respectively. Ambassador Tirol-Ignacio read the Independence Day message of Philippine President Rodrigo R. Duterte.
The program featured performances by the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Alumni Association and Seri Mulia Sarjana School with songs from the classic Filipino music and Original Filipino Music (OPM) song book and a Cordillera dance by OFW Global Movement for Empowerment (OFW GME) to the tune of “Salidumay”. One Pinoy Music (OPM) provided live OPM music for the evening’s festivities.
There are more than 20,000 Filipinos residing in Brunei. More than 170 representatives from the Filipino community organizations in Brunei attended the Independence Day celebration. END
