PH Embassy in Warsaw Hosts Diplomatic Reception to Celebrate the 124th Anniversary of the Proclamation of PH Independence

WARSAW, 15 June 2022 – The Philippine Embassy in Warsaw hosted a Diplomatic Reception on 14 June 2022 at the Sofitel Warsaw Victoria Hotel to celebrate the 124th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence.
The Embassy’s first in-person diplomatic reception since 2019, 2020, and 2021 was attended by close to 100 guests including members of the Diplomatic Corps, Polish government officials, and representatives from the business sector, educational institutions and the Filipino community in Poland.
The Guest of Honor for the Reception was Undersecretary of State for Security, the Americas, Asia and Eastern Policy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland Marcin Przydacz.
In her Independence Day speech, Philippine Ambassador to Poland Leah M. Basinang-Ruiz highlighted the historic mandate received by incoming President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., following the 09 May 2022 elections, as well as the significant developments in Philippines-Poland relations, noting that both countries will celebrate their 50th bilateral anniversary in September next year.
In his remarks, Minister Przydacz congratulated the Philippines on the successful conduct of elections last May and conveyed his best wishes for the incoming Marcos Administration. He expressed Poland’s appreciation for the separate visits last year of National Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana and Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin, Jr., and highlighted the intensification of Philippines-Poland relations, particularly in the area of defense cooperation. He stressed that Poland is committed to further enhance bilateral relations and towards this end he will undertake an official visit to Manila in July this year.
As a token of deep appreciation, Ambassador Ruiz, together with spouse Mr. Alejandro Ricardo Ruiz, presented Minister Przydacz with beautifully-wrapped gift boxes containing native products from the Philippines. The Embassy also served the guests with a special cocktail drink featuring the Philippines’ Don Papa Rum and distributed promotional gift bags containing Cebu Best dried mangoes and DOT tourism brochures.
A special highlight of the occasion was the awarding of Certificates of Appreciation for the exceptional and dedicated service of Philippine Honorary Consul General Mr. Valeriy Kovalenko and his Consular Assistant Ms. Anzhelika Lobova, particularly their remarkable and courageous efforts in assisting and facilitating the evacuation and repatriation of Filipino nationals from war-torn Ukraine since February of this year.
