Philippine Embassy in Brazil Celebrates the 124th Anniversary of the Proclamation of the Philippine Independence

BRASILIA 13 June 2022 – The Philippine Embassy in Brasilia, led by H.E Ambassador Mario F. Chan, hosted a diplomatic reception in celebration and commemoration of the 124th Anniversary of the Proclamation of the Philippine Independence at Porto Vittoria, Brasilia on 10 June 2022.
It was the first time that the Embassy celebrated an in-person Independence Day Reception since 2020. The reception was well-received by the diplomatic corps with H.E. Ambassador Marcia Donner Abreu, Secretary for Asia, the Pacific, and Russia at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Brazil, served as the guest of honor.
More than 150 guests attended the event including 22 Ambassadors and representatives from the Brazilian Armed Forces, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. All the ASEAN heads of missions in Brasilia were also in attendance including Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Vietnam, Singapore, and Thailand.
In his opening remarks, Ambassador Chan recognized the courage and sacrifices of our forefathers who fought for the Philippine independence and highlighted the development and progress that the Philippines and Brazil has achieved in strengthening its bilateral relations. Ambassador Chan also encouraged greater economic cooperation and strong collaboration with Brazil in the areas of aerospace and defense, logistics services, coffee trade, agriculture, bio-economy, environmental protection, and climate change among others.
Ambassador Abreu congratulated the Philippines on its 124th independence and highlighted the strong diplomatic relations with the Philippines and the longest one established in Southeast Asia since 1946. Ambassador Abreu also took note of the growing cooperation with the Philippines through bilateral consultation meetings, technical cooperation, bilateral trade, and engagements in the ASEAN bloc.
The two Excellencies also offered a toast to commemorate and celebrate Philippine independence and to strengthen diplomatic and bilateral relations between the Philippines and Brazil.
True to the Philippine spirit of fiesta and hospitality, guests enjoyed the live performance of two Filipino musicians playing the saxophone and piano. Guests were also served with Filipino and Brazilian food, and a photo booth was set up highlighting Philippine tourist destinations.
