NEW YORK 07 June 2023 – To kick-off celebrations to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the Independence Day of the Republic of the Philippines, the Philippine Permanent Mission to the United Nations, led by Ambassador and Permanent Representative Antonio M. Lagdameo, joined the 2023 Philippine Independence Day Parade in New York city, an annual event organized by the Philippine Independence Day Council Inc. (PIDCI). The parade is the largest Philippine Independence Day parade outside of the Philippines.

This year’s Independence Day celebration theme on Kalayaan, Kinabukasan, Kasaysayan (Freedom, Future, History) invites Filipinos to reflect on the ideals of freedom and liberty that Filipinos valiantly fought for in the past, the aspirations they cherished to prepare the generations to come, and the historical legacy that has shaped their journey, and through which Filipinos pay tribute in various ways for the sacrifices of their ancestors.

Inspired by the theme, the parade included cultural groups and performances that showcased the rich cultural heritage of the Philippines; as well as representatives from groups of Filipino and Filipino-American communities, including the youth, that proudly highlighted and celebrated the positive contribution of the Filipinos diaspora in the United States of America.
