PH Embassy in Riyadh Unveils 125th Independence Day Gift: Painting of Lake Lanao
RIYADH 13 June 2023 – The Philippine Embassy in Riyadh celebrated the 125th Anniversary of the declaration of Philippine Independence on 12 June 2023 at the embassy under the theme “Kalayaan. Kinabukasan. Kasaysayan.”
Chargé d’Affaires Rommel Romato led the flag-raising ceremony which was attended by embassy personnel and representatives from the Filipino community in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. 's video message for Independence Day was played during the ceremony. In his message, the President reminded all Filipinos to continue to unite and commit to protecting the democratic ideals of the Filipino nation to build a prosperous Philippines.
During the event, CDA Romato unveiled the painting of Lake Lanao entitled “Ranao” which the embassy commissioned as a tribute to the contributions of the “people of the lake” or the Maranaos and the Bangsamoro people to the Filipino struggle for freedom and nationhood. The artwork was rendered by Hagod Filipino and is now displayed at the Philippine Embassy’s chancery.
Lake Lanao is the second largest lake in the Philippines and is considered one of the 15 ancient lakes of the world generating 70% of electricity used by the people of Mindanao. Many of the Filipino ambassadors who served in Saudi Arabia hailed from Mindanao. END
