PH Embassy Celebrates Independence Day in Italy

ROME, 16 June 2023 - The Philippine Embassy in Rome, led by Philippine Ambassador to Italy Neal Imperial, held a flag-raising ceremony at the Embassy grounds with representatives of selected Filipino community organizations in Rome and key partners of the Embassy.

In his remarks, Ambassador Imperial acknowledged the contributions of the Filipinos who serve as ambassadors of goodwill of the Philippines to Italy and Europe. He invited the overseas Filipinos to promote tourism and to encourage trade and investment in the Philippines.

The Independence Day messages of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr, Secretary of Foreign Affairs Enrique A. Manalo, and Migrant Workers Secretary Susan V. Ople were read by Ambassador Imperial, Deputy Chief of Mission Nina Cainglet, and Labor Attaché Haney Lynn Siclot, respectively.

In his message, President Marcos challenged Filipinos to assert their liberty day by day and to pursue excellence and integrity. He also urged everyone to take ownership of the fight that gave birth to the independence of the noble and indomitable republic.

The guest performer during the event was Ms. Mirasol de la Cruz, a member of Koro ng San Raffaele Arcangelo and Isang Tinig Choir in Rome, She sang the Filipino classic songs Bayan Ko, Maalaala Mo Kaya, and Sa’yo Lamang. Filipino breakfast was served to the guests.

The theme for the milestone celebration is “Kalayaan. Kinabukasan. Kasaysayan.” The commemoration highlights the birth of the Filipino nation from the proclamation of Philippine independence in 1898 until the end of the first Filipino government that lasted until the capture of President Emilio Aguinaldo on 23 March 1901.
