ROME, 16 June 2023 - The Philippine Embassy in Rome, led by Philippine Ambassador-designate Neal Imperial, hosted a diplomatic reception for Italian officials, the diplomatic corps, the private sector, and the academia on 12 June 2023 at the chancery to celebrate the 125th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence. This was the first Independence Day diplomatic reception held at the new chancery since the pandemic.

Alongside the commemoration of the Philippine Independence Day this year was the 75th  Anniversary of the formal establishment of Philippines-Italy bilateral relations which will conclude on 09 July 2023.

Deputy Director General for Asia and Oceania Alessandra Schiavo of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFAIC) graced the occasion and read the remarks of MFAIC Deputy Minister Maria Tripodi.

In her remarks, Deputy Minister Tripodi underscored that the Philippines is “an increasingly important economic partner” for Italy. She further said that “Italy looks at the Philippines as an emerging power and, even more importantly, as a key partner in the Indo-Pacific: this is an increasingly crucial region in geopolitical terms, which hosts some of the world’s largest and fastest growing economies, while through its waters passes a very high share of international trade.”

The Philippine Consul General in Florence and Philippine Consuls in Naples, Palermo, Reggio Calabria, Venice, Malta and Albania also attended the reception.

It was also attended by the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps Papal Nuncio, the Philippine Ambassador to the Holy See, Ambassadors to Italy, and Permanent Representatives to the Food and Agriculture Organization, to the World Food Programme, and to the International Fund for Agricultural Development.

Filipino baritone Joseleo Logdat, special performer during the event, regaled the attendees with his performance of the songs Cinema Paradiso, Sa Ugoy ng Duyan,and Con Te Partiro.

The Embassy’s clock tower was lit up with the colors of the Philippine flag.

The guests were also treated to Filipino food such as chicken inasal, beef kaldereta, chicken lumpia, lechon belly with tanglad, leche flan, ube mamon, ube ice cream, assorted Philippine-made chocolates, Manille liqueur, Red Horse beer, and Don Papa Rum. END
