PH Consulate General Spotlights Festival Dances, Music During Philippine Independence Day Celebration in Barcelona

The Philippine Consulate General in Barcelona, in partnership with Megaworld International and the Filipino Community in Barcelona, brought a grand showcase of Filipino dances and beats in the celebration of the 125th Anniversary of the Philippine Independence at Moll dela Fusta, Barcelona, on 11 June 2023 (Barcelona PCG photo).

BARCELONA 19 June 2023 - Barcelona stood witness to the Philippines’ rich traditional and modern dances and beats during the 125th Philippine Independence Day celebration at Moll de la Fusta along Barcelona Port on 11 June 2023.

Dances and music of Bacolod’s Masskara and Cebu’s Sinulog festivals, completely adorned with colorful and vibrant costumes, provided by the local governments of Bacolod and Cebu, respectively, as well as medley of Cordillera community dances, and Filipino folk dances “Pandanggo sa Ilaw”, “Bulaklakan”, “Kalatong”, “Salakot”, “Bilao”, and “Tinikling”, filled the stretch of the Port of Barcelona to a day of Filipino fiesta. Philippine martial arts “Arnis” also captivated the audience in the presentation by Filipino and Spanish Arnis players in Barcelona.

“A proud moment to give Barcelona a show of our diverse performances, not only from the various Pinoy fiestas and cultural groups, but also dances and beats that span generations,” said one of the Filipino audiences who joined this year’s Independence Day celebration with the theme, “Kalayaan, Kinabukasan, Kasaysayan.”

Barcelona, being a home to around 16,000 Filipinos, also had Filipino traditional dances to the beat of popular modern sounds, particularly during the event’s dance competition where folk dances were reimagined with modern moves and styles. END
