PH Embassy in Brunei Celebrates 125th Philippine Independence Day with Flag Raising Ceremony, Book Launch of “The Legend of Malakas and Maganda”
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN 20 June 2023 – In celebration of the 125th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence, a flag raising ceremony was attended on 12 June 2023 by the officers and staff of the Embassy of the Philippines in Brunei, led by Philippine Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Marian Jocelyn R. Tirol-Ignacio.
The Ambassador read the message of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., who called on every Filipino to protect the democratic ideals of the nation, preserve the Filipino way of life, and work for the attainment of a just and prosperous Philippines.
After the ceremony, Ambassador Tirol-Ignacio led the launch of the book re-telling the story of “The Legend ofMalakas and Maganda” which she co-authored. The book is a joint cultural project of the Philippine Embassy in Bandar Seri Begawan and the Reading and Literacy Association of Brunei (RELA), an organization working with foreign missions in Brunei in publishing a book series titled “Cultural Stories from around the World”.
“The Legend of Malakas and Maganda” introduces to Bruneian children the ancient tale of how the Philippines and the first Filipinos were created. The story book provides an opportunity for Bruneians to gain a better understanding of the Philippines and its people, and aims to foster warm relations among the children of both countries. END
