Moroccan High School Students Participate in Workshop on Philippine Music

RABAT 20 June 2023 – As part of its celebration of the 125th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine independence, the Philippine Embassy in Morocco, in partnership with Lycée Français Sophie Germain (LFSG) and through the support of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), organized a lecture and workshop on Philippine Music for Moroccan high school students on 15 June 2023 at the LFSG campus in Rabat.

During the lecture, Ms. Bernadette Mamauag and Ms. Katrina Marie Saga, members of The Nightingales, discussed the importance of Philippine vocal music in reflecting cultural heritage and artistic expression, the evolution of Philippine music from the pre-colonial era, Spanish colonial period, American period, up until the contemporary modern era, as well as Philippine folk songs from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

Afterwards, the students participated in a voice workshop where they learned how to sing Philippine folk songs such as Leron Leron Sinta and Ili-ili Tulog Anay, as well as some basic vocal techniques. 

In its continuin tourism promotion initiatives and economic diplomacy agenda, the Embassy distributed gift bags to participants which contain polvoron, Malagos chocolate bars, Clover chips, and brochures on various Philippine destinations. END
