PH Consulate General in Frankfurt Celebrates Philippine Independence Day with Fiesta in UBErasbach

FRANKFURT 26 June 2023 – As part of its Independence Day celebration, the Filipino community in Bavaria put a spotlight on the Filipinos’ obsession with ube, with this year’s “Fiesta in UBErasbach” featuring various gastronomic interpretations of ube, cultural performances, concert of the Philippine Male Singers, ‘ube-themed’ Santacruzan, Mass, and ube recipe/cooking competition, among others. The Philippine Consulate General in Frankfurt provided support to the Philippine Culture Club Nurnberg e.V. in organizing the second Ube Fiesta in Germany in Oberasbach, Bavaria.
Philippine Consul General in Frankfurt Marie Yvette Banzon Abalos lauded the increased capacity and the spirit of bayanihan in promoting ube and the Philippine culture. She encouraged them to further contribute to the Consulate General’s efforts in branding organic ube as a distinctly Filipino product, alongside promoting its export to Germany/Europe as the next “it” food ingredient and getting involved in diaspora investment in developing the ube industry in the Philippines.
The all day-long event, which featured some 30 booths selling food interpretation of ube and other Filipino products, was attended by more than 2,000 guests from all over Germany and neighboring countries such as the Netherlands, Belgium and Switzerland.
Other government agencies that provided support to the event were the PH Department of Tourism Office in Frankfurt who took the opportunity to promote and gather participants to its ‘Bisita, Be My Guest’ tourism campaign; the Migrant Workers Office in Berlin that promoted Migrant Workers’ Day and sponsored prizes; and the Department of Agriculture. The Consulate also conducted its third consular outreach mission alongside the festivities. END
