PH Consulate General in Milan Leads One of the Biggest Independence Day Celebration in Europe

MILAN 13 July 2023 - In commemoration of the 125th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine independence,  the Philippine Consulate General in Milan, in partnership with the Filipino community, led the Kalayaan Parade 2023 in Idroscalo, Milan on 18 June  2023.

The extravagant event was attended by approximately 8,000 people. With more than 90 contingents from the different regions in Northern Italy, South of France and Switzerland, the event is one of the biggest Independence Day celebrations in Europe. These contingents, which represent various religious and cultural groups,  celebrated the rich and vibrant culture of the Philippines through festive dance and music.

The event also displayed the creativity and artistry of Filipino designers who used traditional elements with modern designs. Children also participated in the Palarong Pambansa which introduced traditional Filipino games such as luksong-tinik, basagan ng palayok, and many more. The Kalayaan parade also included the selection of the Mutya ng Kalayaan from among the lovely muses, the best performances, best costumes, and best booths.

Kalayaan Parade 2023 is the second Independence Day parade in Milan since the first one was held in 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic. END
