Philippine Consulate General in Agana Celebrates 125th PH Independence Day

AGANA 14 August 2023 – The Filipino Community of Guam (FCG) hosted the Independence Day Ball at the Dusit Thani Guam Resort Hotel on 05 August 2023. The event was attended by more than 500 guests including Guam Governor Lou Leon Guerrero, First Gentleman Jeffrey Cook, Lt. Governor Joshua F. Tenorio, Speaker Therese Terlaje and members of the 37th Guam Legislature, Justices of the Supreme Court, other Guam and Federal government officials, and leaders of the Business and Filipino communities.
The Independence Ball was one of this year’s Independence Day activities that was earlier postponed due to the devastation caused by super typhoon Mawar that hit Guam on 24 May 2023.
Philippine Supreme Court Associate Justice Mario V. Lopez, who was invited by the FCG to be the Guest of Honor and the Keynote Speaker of the event, delivered his keynote address highlighting the resiliency that the Filipino community have shown in overcoming the devastation brought about by Super Typhoon Mawar.
Consul General Rosario P. Lemque, in her toast remarks, commended the people of Guam and the Filipino community in Guam for their steadfast unity and cooperation in working together to face common challenges such as the Coronavirus pandemic and recently, Super Typhoon Mawar.
Governor Lou Leon Guerrero in her toast remarks, acknowledged the contributions made by Filipinos for the progress and well-being of Guam and offered a toast for the continued strong friendship of the Philippines and Guam.
The event featured Filipino cuisine such as manok na inasal, bistek, pakbet, ensaladang talong at manga, pansit bihon and turon.
Adding more color to the event, Filipino pianist Mr. Rey Canda, together with some local artists, entertained the audience with Filipino classical and contemporary musical performances. END
