Filipino-Norwegian singers, dance groups and bands provided original Filipino music and cultural shows.
OSLO 06 June 2024 – Filipinos, Filipino-Norwegians, and other nationalities, with a steady crowd of at least 2000 to 3000 at any given time, participated in the Cultural and Family Day (CFD) on 01 June 2024 at the Spikersuppa Park in Karl Johans gate, considered as the center of Oslo.
The CFD, organized by Filipino community organization Kalayaan Norge-Oslo in cooperation with the Philippine Embassy in Norway, was the opening salvo of the month-long celebration of the 126th Anniversary of Philippine Independence in various areas all over Norway and Iceland under the “one celebration, many events” concept.
Visitors at the Embassy’s booth were allowed to relive their childhood with the "Laro ng Lahi", where Embassy officers and staff demonstrated how to play traditional Filipino games like sungka, jackstone, chinese garter, sipa, and bugtungan.
Locals and tourists at the booth tried their hand at the various games and answered the riddles, with the chance to win Filipino snacks and products as prizes.
At the main stage, various Filipino-Norwegian singers, dance groups and bands provided original Filipino music, songs, and dance for a cultural show. Around the venue, food booths offered Filipino cuisine like lechon, pares, halo-halo, inasal, dinakdakan and dinuguan, as well as Filipino snacks and artisanal products. The long lines to these booths are a testament to a strong and vibrant Filipino food culture patronage.
Members of the diplomatic corps in Oslo, including the Ambassadors from Myanmar, Vietnam, Japan and India, also dropped by to join the festivities.
More events are lined up in various areas around Norway and in Iceland during the month to commemorate the country’s independence and nationhood. END
