Philippine Embassy in Mexico Celebrates 126th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence

MEXICO 18 June 2024– The Philippine Embassy in Mexico celebrated the 126th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence with a diplomatic reception held at Club Naval Norte, Mexico City, under the theme “Kalayaan. Kinabukasan. Kasaysayan.”
Director General Fernando Gonzalez Saiffe from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, represented the Mexican Government. Members of the diplomatic corps, academic institutions, business people, state representatives and some co-nationals attended the event.
The Ambassador emphasized in her speech that the theme of Independence Day embodies the aspiration for a prosperous future, driven by the freedom that the Filipinos cherish and the valiant contributions of its people throughout its history.
She said that cooperation between Mexico and the Philippines has gained renewed momentum with the recent celebration of the 70th anniversary of bilateral relations. This milestone event sets the stage for future endeavors to elevate the partnership to new heights.
The message of DG Gonzalez-Saiffe highlighted the similarities between Mexico and the Philippines, noting that even words with different forms share related meanings. He emphasized that these linguistic connections enhance mutual understanding and serve as a bridge for deeper collaboration and cultural exchange, further strengthening the relationship between the two nations.
Guests were entertained with folkloric performances, namely: Habanera de Jovencita and Paseo de Iloilo, performed by Embassy personnel and their family members. END
