PH Embassy in Papua New Guinea Celebrates 126th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence

PORT MORESBY 20 June 2024 – The Philippine Embassy in Papua New Guinea, led by Chargé d’ Affaires Ariz Severino V. Convalecer hosted a diplomatic dinner reception at the APEC Haus, Port Moresby on 12 June 2024, in commemoration of the 126th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence.

The program officially began upon the arrival of the Guest of Honor, the Governor General of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea Grand Chief Sir Bob Bofeng Dadae. The Independence Day video message of Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. was shown to the guests before CDA Convalecer delivered his short remarks. After which, toasts to His Majesty King Charles III and President Marcos were exchanged.

It was the first time the Governor General of Papua New Guinea graced the National Day Reception of any country.

Another noteworthy guest was Chief Justice Sir Gibuna Gibbs Salika.

The event was attended by members of the Diplomatic Corps, government officials, business leaders and leaders of the Filipino Community in Port Moresby. 

Guests were treated to delectable and sumptuous Filipino dishes, including lechon, and were serenaded by the Embassy’s special guest performer from the Philippines,          Michael C. Estrella, the Principal French Horn of the Manila Symphony Orchestra. END
