PH Consulate in Guam hosts 126th Philippine Independence Day Reception
Consul General Rosario P. Lemque delivers her Independence Day remarks
AGANA 24 June 2024– Agana PCG hosted an Independence Day Reception in celebration of the 126th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence on 14 June 2024 at the Rihga Royal Laguna Guam Resort.
The event was attended by around 180 guests including Governor of Guam, Hon. Lou Leon Guerrero, First Gentleman Atty. Jeffrey Cook, Speaker Therese Terlaje, other members of the 37th Guam Legislature, Guam Supreme Court Justice Robert Torres, other Guam government officials, Rear Admiral Brent DeVore and other leaders of the U.S. military, and the leaders and members of the local business and Filipino communities.
In her message, Consul General Rosario P. Lemque, urged all Filipinos to take this year’s theme: “Kalayaan, Kinabukasan, Kasaysayan” to heart. She said, “Let us remember that our freedom is a precious gift, our future a shared responsibility, and our history a foundation of our identity. Together, let us strive to keep the spirit of our independence alive, ensuring that the story of our nation remains true for future generations as we strive to achieve the goals of “Ang Bagong Pilipinas.”
In her remarks, Governor Lou Leon Guerrero, expressed her joy and enthusiasm as she joined the Filipino community in celebrating Independence Day. She conveyed her profound gratitude to the Filipino people for the support and recalled especially all the work that Filipinos did to help rebuild the Guam community after World War II.
One of the highlights of the program was Agana PCG personnel’s version of “Noong Unang Panahon'' from the Philippine opera, “Tales of the Manuvu,” which talks about the deteriorating state not just of the environment, but also the hardening of peoples’ hearts in today’s world.
Lechon, sapin-sapin, turon, palabok and lumpia sariwa were among the delectable Filipino food served and enjoyed by the guests during the reception. END
