Filipino Community in Guam Hosts Philippine Independence Day Ball
AGANA 24 June 2024 – Agana Philippine Consulate General personnel attended the Independence Day Ball hosted by the Filipino Community of Guam (FCG) held at the Dusit Thani Guam Resort on 16 June 2024 in commemoration of the 126th Anniversary of Philippine Independence and FCG’s 70th Anniversary.
The event was attended by more than 300 guests including Governor of Guam, Hon. Lou Leon Guerrero, First Gentleman Atty. Jeffrey Cook, Speaker Therese Terlaje, Congressman James Moylan, members of the 37th Guam Legislature, Guam Supreme Court Justice Robert Torres, other Guam government officials and the leaders and members of the local business and Filipino communities.
Philippine Supreme Court Associate Justice Jhosep Y. Lopez was the Guest of Honor and Keynote Speaker at the event. He delivered his remarks highlighting FCG’s strong foundation in promoting the spirit of bayanihan as an essential part of Filipino culture.
Consul General Rosario P. Lemque and Guam Governor Lou Leon Guerrero exchanged toast remarks in honor of President Joseph Biden, Jr. and President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., respectively.
One of the highlights of the FCG Ball was the 45-minute cultural presentation of the Kalilayan Folkloric Group on traditional Philippine folk dances and songs which entertained all the attendees of the event. The repertoire includes the tribal dances of the Cordillera region, Maria Clara dances, Kalesa medley, Paypay de Manila and Jota Intramureňa. There were also Muslim inspired dances and rural dances that includes Pandango sa Ilaw, Maglalatik, Binasuan and Tinikling. END
