Philippine Embassy Hosts Gala for Filipino Community in Pakistan for 126th Independence Day Celebration

Ambassador Maria Agnes M. Cervantes and Consul Juan Paolo G. Alix award the Certificate of Accreditation to Filcom Groups United Pinoys in Pakistan (UPP), United OFW Lahore, Pilipino Tayo Karachi, United Overseas Filipino Workers in Islamabad (FOWI) and Kabalikat ng Kapwa Pilipino (KKP).

ISLAMABAD 28 June 2024 - The Philippine Embassy in Islamabad held an Independence Day Gala for the Filipino Community at the Philippine Embassy Chancery grounds on 08 June 2024. 

Philippine Ambassador Maria Agnes M. Cervantes led the celebration and delivered a message emphasizing on the theme “Kalayaan. Kinabukasan. Kasaysayan” and the FilCom’s role in preserving the hard-fought independence of the country. A cultural show ensued after with traditional dance performances by the Ramon Obusan Folkloric Group (ROFG). 

The event also served as venue for the awarding of the Certificates of Accreditation of FilCom Organizations in Pakistan and the Oath Taking Ceremony of the Officers of the Accredited FilCom Organizations in Pakistan. A total of five Filipino community Organizations complied with the documentary submissions as announced by the Embassy in May 2024 and were subsequently recognized during the event. These FilCom Organizations are United OFW Lahore, United Pinoys in Pakistan (UPP), Kabalikat ng Kapwa Pilipino (KKP), Pilipino Tayo Karachi and Filipino Overseas Workers in Islamabad (FOWI). 

Filipino food such as tapa, pansit guisado, lumpiang gulay, pinakbet, chopsuey, and chicken adobo were served during the Independence Day Gala. 

Cultural performances by the FilCom members, through folk dance and OPM songs, concluded the Gala. A total of 135 FilCom members and officers from Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi attended the activity. END

A cultural show was presented in the Gala where FilCom groups danced traditional Filipino dances and OPM songs were sung.

A repertoire of Filipino dances was performed by the Ramon Obusan Folkloric Group (ROFG) during the Independence Day Gala.
