PH Embassy Hosts reception for 126th Independence Day, 75th Anniversary of Philippines - Pakistan Diplomatic Relations

ISLAMABAD 28 June 2024 - Philippine Ambassador Maria Agnes M. Cervantes hosted a diplomatic reception at the Grand Ballroom of Marriott Hotel on 12 June 2024 to mark the 126th independence day and Philippine nationhood and the 75th anniversary of Philippines and Pakistan diplomatic relations. 

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh served as the Chief Guest highlighting the shared interests of Pakistan and the Philippines on maritime security and the potential areas for collaboration on the field. Former Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed delivered his speech as Guest of Honor and shared his experience working with Filipino legislators which resulted in personal friendships and long-term acquaintances between Pakistanis and Filipinos. 

In her message, Ambassador Cervantes highlighted the enduring friendship between Philippines and Pakistan for the past 75 years and calls for a brighter future for both countries where collaboration, solidarity, ingenuity, and greatness are pursued. 

A cultural show was part of the reception where song numbers on Filipino music were sung and traditional Philippine dances were performed by Philippines’ Ramon Obusan Folkloric Group. 

The Philippines declared independence on 12 June 1898 and Philippines-Pakistan diplomatic relations was established in 1949, two years after the declaration of independence of Pakistan in 1947. END
