SINGAPORE 02 July 2024 – In celebration of the 126th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine independence and nationhood, Philippine Ambassador to Singapore Medardo G. Macaraig led the officers and staff of the Embassy and its partner agencies in a flag-raising ceremony held this morning at its temporary office in TripleOne Somerset.

During the ceremony, video greetings of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. and Secretary for Foreign Affairs Enrique A. Manalo were played on the TV screen.

In addition, Heads of the Embassy’s partner agencies read the messages of their respective Department Secretaries in celebration of the Kalayaan 2024: MWO-Singapore Officer-in-Charge and Assistant Labor Attaché Atty. Eduard Ferrer on behalf of Department of Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac and Defense and Armed Forces Attaché Capt. Sherwin E. Respeto, PN, on behalf of Department of National Defense Secretary Gilbert C. Teodoro Jr.

The multi-year Philippine Independence Day commemoration (2023-2026), with the theme Kalayaan (Freedom), Kinabukasan (Future), Kasaysayan (History), highlights the birth of the Filipino nation from the proclamation of Philippine independence on 12 June 1898 in Kawit, Cavite until the end of the first Filipino government that lasted until the capture of President Emilio Aguinaldo in Palanan, Isabela on 23 March 1901. The theme aims to raise awareness among the Filipino people of our place in history as the earliest modern democracy and republic in Asia.

As part of the Philippine Independence Day celebration, the Philippine Embassy brings back Food Trek which was launched in 2023. Food Trek aims to showcase Filipino culture through the presentation of authentic Filipino cuisines and food products available in the city-state; promote Filipino restaurants and establishments that feature Filipino cuisine or dishes in their menu; highlight the skills of Filipinos within the food and beverage (F&B), and hotel, restaurant, and cafe (HoReCA) industries in Singapore; and provide a platform for Singapore-based Philippine companies, entrepreneurs, and enterprises to promote their businesses, food services, and products. This year also marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Singapore. END
