Philippine Embassy Joins Filipino Community in Cyprus in 126th Philippine Independence Day Celebrations
The Independence Day parade began at Cyta Park and culminated at Eleftheria Square where the program of activities was held
NICOSIA 03 July 2024 – Philippine Ambassador Giovanni E. Palec joined the Filipino Community in Cyprus to celebrate the 126th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine independence held at Eleftheria Square, Nicosia on 16 June 2024. The event was organized by the Philippine Consulate in Larnaca together with the various Filipino Community organizations in Cyprus.
The celebration started with a parade that commenced at Cyta Park and concluded at Eleftheria Square. The program began with the welcome remarks by Honorary Consul in Larnaca Ms. Charmagne-Garcia Laconico, followed by a message from the Social Security System (SSS) President and Chief Executive Officer Rolando Ledesma Macasaet which was delivered by Ms. Lydia E. Cabagnot, the SSS Foreign Representative in London who joined the celebrations and rendered services for the Filipino Community in Cyprus. The official message of Department of Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac was read by Ms. Anabelle Riego-De Dios while the message of Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Administrator Arnel Ignacio was delivered by Welfare Officer Ms. Marivic Mondina.
The keynote address was delivered by Ambassador Giovanni Palec who emphasized the importance of unity, freedom and cultural pride among the Filipino community in Cyprus.
Guests and attendees were captivated by performances from representatives of Filipino organizations, featuring Filipino songs and various traditional dances. END
