Philippine Embassy in Madrid Hosts Diplomatic Reception Celebrating 127th Anniversary of Proclamation of Philippine Independence
Ambassador Philippe J. Lhuillier and Mr. Guillermo Escribano Manzano, Director General of Spanish in the World, of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, (MAEC) during the toast at the National Day diplomatic reception.
MADRID 17 June 2025 — The Embassy of the Philippines in Madrid, Spain hosted a diplomatic reception on 12 June 2025 led by Ambassador Philippe J. Lhuillier along with 450 guests from Spain´s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, other government agencies, members of the diplomatic corps, Philippine Honorary Consuls and members of the business community in Madrid.
Ambassador Philippe J. Lhuillier delivered the opening remarks, reflecting on the importance of the event and highlighting the enduring partnership between the Philippines and Spain.
“Our common bond has paved the way for collaboration in many areas, whether it be in economic exchange, cultural engagement, or multilateral cooperation. We stand proud as representatives of a free and self-reliant democratic republic. We stand ready to engage Spain and the rest of the world.” Ambassador Lhuillier said.
Mr. Guillermo Escribano Manzano, Director General of Spanish in the World, of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, represented the Spanish government. In his congratulatory message, Mr. Escribano extolled the various programs launched to foster the growth of Philippines-Spain bilateral relations.
The highlight of the event was the musical production of the Philippine Madrigal Singers, who gave a soulful rendition of their hit choral arrangements.
Filipino food was also given a spotlight during the reception with various Filipino dishes representing Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao presented at the event’s culinary feast.
Ambassador Lhuillier and Director General Escribano led everyone in a toast to the enduring strength of Philippines-Spain relations.
Other special guests included Hon. Javier Galvan Ruiz, Senior Chief of Police of Madrid; Hon. Jaime González Taboada, Councilor-President, District of Chamberí; Hon. Yolanda Estrada Madrid, Councilor-President, District of Chamartín; Hon. Paula Goméz-Angulo Amorós, Councilor-President, District of Tetuán; Hon. Alejandro Klecker De Elizalde, Director General, Real Fábrica de Tapices; Hon. Emilio De Miguel Calabia, Director, Casa Asia-Madrid; and Consul General Maria Theresa S.M. Lazaro of the Philippine Consulate General in Barcelona.
Filipina-Spanish actress Ms. Alexandra Masangkay and Spanish actor Mr. Andreas Muñoz Blázquez were among the celebrities who graced the event.
With the theme “Kalayaan. Kinabukasan. Kasaysayan.”, the diplomatic reception successfully commemorated Philippine Independence, which was a resounding statement and affirmation of the Filipino identity, culture, and aspirations as a people. END
