PH Consulate General in Macau SAR Hosts Diplomatic Reception in Celebration of 127th Philippine Independence Day

MACAU 24 June 2025 — The Philippine Consulate General in Macau SAR, led by Philippine Consul General to Macau Edna May Grecia Lazaro, hosted a diplomatic reception to commemorate the 127th Philippine independence day on 12 June 2025 at the Chinnery Ballroom, Artyzen Grand Lapa Hotel. Over a hundred guests from the Consular Corps, Macau government, academe, media, business sector and non-government organizations participated in the event.

Consul General Lazaro, in her remarks, noted that Filipinos comprise the largest migrant community in Macau, and that it has been a source of pride for the Consulate to know that Filipinos are highly valued in their respective workplaces. She also expressed her gratitude to the government of Macau for the unwavering support to the Consulate and the Filipinos living and working here.

The diplomatic reception was also held to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the formal establishment of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and China. As part of the commemoration of this milestone, the Consulate recognized and presented awards to Filipinos in Macau whose success stories had been included in the #MadeItInChina series, a collaborative project of the Philippine Embassy in Beijing and six Philippine Consulates General in China in highlighting the accomplishments of notable Filipinos in China, in this year’s celebration.

The highlight of the diplomatic reception was the performance of The Nightingales, a soprano duo from the Philippines who sang classical songs, Filipino popular and folk songs, and a Ryan Cayabyab Medley. They also performed a popular Chinese song, entitled “The Moon Represents My Heart,”  and  “A Roupa do Marinheiro,” a Portuguese song.

Moreover, the Consulate General commemorated the Philippine Independence Day with the Filipino community on 08 June 2025, with the theme Kalayaan. Kinabukasan. Kasaysayan.

The celebration kicked off with a flag raising ceremony at the Consulate’s consular area. A total of 30 Filipino community leaders and members joined consulate personnel and regular clients in singing the Lupang Hinirang and reciting the Panunumpa sa Watawat. A Filipino breakfast salo-salo followed the short program.

As part of the Kalayaan 2025 celebration, the Consulate also commemorated Migrant Worker’s Day on the same day. MWO/OWWA prepared snack treats and raffle prizes for all Consulate clients. END
