PH Consul General Lauds Dynamic Filipino Community in Shanghai and Eastern China at Independence Day Celebration

SHANGHAI 30 June 2025 — New Philippine Consul General in Shanghai Myca Magnolia Maog Fischer commended the Filipinos in Shanghai and the provinces of Anhui, Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Hubei for their dynamism and in projecting an emergent Philippines, as she graced the Filipino community’s reception on 21 June 2025 celebrating the 127th Philippine Independence Day.
Dubbed “Our Culture, Our Strength: Embrace, Preserve, Share the Filipino Spirit with the World”, the event was held at the Intercontinental Hotel in Jing’an District and helmed by the umbrella organization Filipino Community in Shanghai (FILCOMSHA) with the support of its member groups and the Philippine Country Team, consisting of the PCG, the Philippine Trade and Investment Center, and the Philippine Department of Tourism Office.
The celebration opened with an inspired chorale rendition of Lupang Hinirang by Filipino teachers affiliated with the Pinoy Teachers Association in Shanghai (PITAS) banding together as TINIG PITAS.
Addressing the gathering, Consul General Fischer lauded compatriots for their “dynamism, vitality, and the desire to rise above every challenge”, urging them to “continue to project a better image of the Philippines and Filipino people”.
She pledged to “lead a dynamic and engaging Philippine Consulate General and be part of the Filipino Community as we move forward towards promoting our interests as Filipinos”, and to deliver consular services in an efficient and more convenient manner.
The audience listened attentively as the video message of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., on the occasion of Independence Day was shown.
Adding fun to the event were “Grand Regional Muse Walk”, competition for “Bayani Look Alike”, raffles, and musical numbers by TINIG PITAS and the Philippine Musicians Association in Shanghai (PMAS). Judges were Dai-Ichi General Manager Lee Mie Yee, Former President of the United Architects of the Philippines – Shanghai Herbert A. Recato, and PCG Cultural Officer Jeannie F. Petrola. END
