PHL Embassy in Brasília Commemorates Rizal Day

04 January 2017 BRASÍLIA – The Philippine Embassy in Brasília commemorated Rizal Day through a simple program with some members of the Filipino Community and Brazilian friends on 29 December 2017.

The program consisted of a wreath laying at the bust of Dr. Rizal inside the Embassy compound, the recitation of Dr. Rizal’s poem “Mi Ultimo Adios” in Spanish, and the screening of the Marilou Diaz-Abaya film “Jose Rizal.”

Minister Cecilio Crespo, Chargé d’affaires, a.i. of the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, read the Mi Ultimo Adios in Spanish. His recital of the poem showed that he was visibly moved by the power of the poem, especially after the Chargé d’affaires, a.i Ariz Severino V. Convalecer explained that Dr. Rizal wrote it his jail cell before he was to be executed by firing squad. Brazilian guests, who all spoke Spanish, were also moved by the Mi Ultimo Adios. The guests were also moved by the film “Jose Rizal.” END
