Special Commemoration of Rizal Day in Dubai
26 January 2018 DUBAI – Special Commemoration of the 121st Anniversary of Rizal Day at the Philippine Consulate Grounds was held on 19 January. This is the 2nd commemoration of Rizal Day, following the 30 December 2017 Commemorative Activity also held at the Consulate Grounds.
The Knight of Rizal Dubai Chapter led the preparations of the event, participated in by around 100 students and school administrators of the Far Eastern Private School in Sharjah. The 3-hour activity included a Re-enactment of the Life of Rizal, musical interludes, and a Keynote Address from the Consul General.
Consul General Paul Raymund P. Cortes again challenged the current generation of Overseas Filipinos to impart the principles and ideals of Rizal to the next generation of Filipinos, citing the difficulty of inculcating Filipino civic consciousness into children of OFs due to strict host government prohibitions on education in the UAE.
The 2nd event was organized to allow students to be a part of our Rizal Day Celebrations as 30 December 2017 falls on the school’s Winter and Christmas Break. END
