OSLO, 31 December 2021 – The Philippine Embassy in Oslo observed Rizal Day this year with a heartfelt commemoration of the martyrdom of Dr. Jose Rizal, and the meaning of his many achievements for our country and our people, especially our youth.
The commemoration started with the opening prayer led by a young lady, Ms. Ghail Rafol.
The millennials were the main performers of the ceremony, with nine-year old Jaguar Deguito reading “Sa Aking mga Kababata” (Letter to the Youth); and Iris Amat, Tonton Fos, and Ashley Dado reading “Mi Ultimo Adios” in Filipino, Spanish, and English, respectively. Aby Dado capped the event with the soulful rendition of “Bayan Ko”.
The commemoration comes amidst the trying times caused by a new surge in the pandemic, as the Omicron variant of the virus hit Norway and posed new dangers to the Filipino community.
The cold snow and rising COVID cases could not however dampen the patriotic spirit of the Filipinos, especially the young Filipinos in Norway, as they readily participated in the Embassy-led commemoration of the martyrdom of Dr. Jose Rizal,” said newly-arrived Philippine Ambassador to Norway Enrico T. Fos. END
