PH Embassy in Mexico commemorates 125th anniversary of Rizal’s martyrdom

MEXICO, 03 January 2022 – The Philippine Embassy in Mexico held commemorative events on the occasion of the 125th death anniversary of Philippine National Hero, Dr. Jose Rizal with the theme, “Rizal: For Science, Truth, and Life” (Rizal: Para sa Agham, Katotohanan, at Buhay).
Philippine Ambassador to Mexico Demetrio R. Tuason led the officers and staff of the Philippine Embassy in Mexico, together with their dependents, in the flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremony on 17 December 2021 at the Rizal monument. The Rizal Monument, which is located at the main avenue of Paseo de la Reforma in Mexico City, is believed to be one of the largest statues of its kind outside the Philippines. It is the work of Costa Rican-Mexican artist Francisco Zuñiga and was dedicated in 1967.
On 30 December 2021, the Philippine Embassy in Mexico held a program, led by Ms. Marisa R. Winkler, Chargé d’ Affaires, a.i., at its premises. The celebration, which was attended by the Embassy personnel and their dependents, commenced with the singing of the Philippine National Anthem and Panunumpa sa Watawat ng Pilipinas. It was then followed by a recitation of the Mi Ultimo Adios, laying of flowers and the group singing of “Ako’y Isang Pinoy” by Florante. The simple activity was capped with a Filipino breakfast.
During the occasion, CDA Winkler delivered her message underscoring Dr. Jose Rizal’s great love for the country and immeasurable contributions in the formation of Filipino nationalism and nation building. END
