Philippine Consulate General In Honolulu commemorates 125th anniversary of Rizal’s martyrdom

HONOLULU, 03 January 2022 - Consul General Emilio T. Fernandez led the officers and staff of the Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu in commemorating the 125th anniversary of the martyrdom of Philippine national hero Dr. Jose P. Rizal. The theme for this year’s commemoration is, “Rizal: For Science, Truth, Life” (Rizal: Para sa Agham, Katotohanan, at Buhay).
A flag raising was held at the Philippine Consulate grounds, followed by an offering of a wreath at the bust of Dr. Rizal by Consul General Fernandez. The Consul General also offered a lei at the bust of Dr. Rizal located at the Sentro Rizal Honolulu, which was inaugurated on 26 August 2021.
In partnership with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, the Philippine Consulate conducted an on-site screening of “Rizal’s Pen,” a film directed and written by Nicolas B. Pichay about a young man discovering the relevance of Dr. Rizal’s writings in his life, at the Sentro Rizal Honolulu. END
