PH Embassy in Brunei commemorates 125th anniversary of Rizal’s martyrdom

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, 03 January 2022 – In commemoration of the 125th anniversary of the martyrdom of Dr. Jose Rizal, the Philippine Embassy together with representatives of the Filipino Community, paid tribute to the Philippine National Hero at the Embassy grounds along the Diplomatic Enclave on 30 December 2021.
Philippine Chargé d’ Affaires to Brunei Darussalam Pete Raymond V. Delfin led the flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremonies, followed by a short program to commemorate the life and death of Rizal.
During the program, the new Philippine Ambassador to Negara Brunei Darussalam, Her Excellency Marian Jocelyn R. Tirol-Ignacio, who arrived in the Sultanate the previous day before and still undergoing quarantine procedures, virtually delivered a Message in her first official event with the Filipino Community in the Sultanate.
With the theme “Rizal: For Science, Truth and Life,” Ambassador Tirol-Ignacio underscored the relevance of Dr. Rizal’s life and example today and cited his steadfast sense of purpose and patriotism as a vital guidepost for the present generation in confronting the challenges brought forth by the pandemic.
The event was capped by a screening and brief discussion of “Rizal’s Pen”, a short film about a young man discovering the relevance of Jose Rizal’s writings to present-day Philippine realities. This was followed by a fellowship breakfast among Embassy personnel and Filipino Community members. END
