PH Embassy in Lebanon commemorates 125th anniversary of Rizal’s martyrdom

BEIRUT, 30 December 2021 – The Philippine Embassy in Lebanon commemorated the 125th anniversary of the martyrdom of Dr. Jose P. Rizal through a special flag-raising ceremony and reading of Rizal’s great literary works. The event was held at the Chancery’s Sentro Rizal and attended by all Embassy personnel.
In his remarks, Ambassador Raymond R. Balatbat emphasized that Rizal was a visionary and among the first champions of women’s empowerment evident in his letters to the women of Malolos.
Ambassador Balatbat also highlighted that this year’s celebration of Rizal Day was momentous as it saw the historic signing of the Republic Act 11641 or the creation of the Department of Migrant Workers.
During the program, the Ambassador also unveiled the commemorative plaque for the 75th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations Between the Philippines and Lebanon. A similar plaque will be sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants of the Lebanese Republic.
During the ceremony, the Assistance-to-Nationals section of the Embassy was recognized for its Free Voluntary Mass Repatriation Program (December 2019-December 2020), as well as DFA employees who received loyalty awards for milestones in their career . A Filipino-themed breakfast capped off the ceremony. END
