PH Embassy in Vienna commemorates 125th Anniversary of the Rizal’s martyrdom

VIENNA, 05 January 2022 – The Philippine Embassy and Permanent Mission in Vienna, led by Chargé d'Affaires Ivan Frank M. Olea, observed the 125th Anniversary of the Martyrdom of Dr. Jose P. Rizal with a short program in the Embassy Chancery on 29 December 2021.
In his remarks, Chargé d'Affaires Olea underlined how the theme of this year’s commemoration -- “Para sa Agham, Katotohanan, Buhay” or “Rizal for Science, Truth, and Life” - dovetails into the theme of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of Philippines-Austria relations with the latter’s emphasis on science as a driver for cooperation. He also took the opportunity to reiterate the unwavering commitment and support of the Embassy for the Filipino community to “enhance the role of Filipinos in Austria, and make Austrians aware of the contribution of Filipinos to the development of Austria.”
After Chargé d'Affaires Olea’s remarks, the program proceeded with a simple wreath-laying in the Chancery, reading of excerpts of Dr. Rizal’s “Mi Ultimo Adios”, as well as a screening of the Embassy’s own production entitled“Tracing Rizal’s Footsteps in Vienna.”
In addition to Embassy personnel, Filipino leaders of Bikol Society Austria, DDS Austria, DDS Europe, Bulacan and Friends Association, European Network of Filipino Diaspora Austria , Filipino Assistance Movement in Austria, Folklorico Filipino Vienna, Forderung der Philippinischen Kultur und Folklore, Pandan Association in Vienna, Philippine Association of Medical Technologists , Philippine Desk, Philippine Nurses Association in Austria, Urban Nomad Mixes, Filipina Austria, and Igorot Austria also attended the event.
