HONG KONG, 29 December 2021 – The Consulate General of the Philippines in Hong Kong commemorated the 125th Death Anniversary of Dr. Jose P. Rizal with a wreath-laying ceremony attended by the Consulate’s personnel and attached agencies held at the public area of the Consulate.
During the wreath-laying ceremony, the Consulate honored Rizal with an oral interpretation of Rizal’s poem “Mi Ultimo Adios” recited in Filipino by Consul Paulo V. Saret and followed by a brief message of Consul General Raly L. Tejada.
In his remarks, Consul General Tejada underscored Rizal's brilliance, compassion, and courage, which remains an undying source of inspiration that ignites patriotism in Filipinos. He also said that similar to expatriate Filipinos in Hong Kong, Rizal was himself a migrant who made good use of his time in the Territory by working as an ophthalmologist while continuing to write what was supposed to be his third and last novel.
