The wreath-laying rites was led by Chargé d’ Affaires Maria Agnes Cervantes, followed by Honorary Consul Mr. Fahdel Sheikh, and FILCOM representatives Ms. Lucia O. Deocades, Ms. Susana R. Nadeem, and Ms. Virginia Jingle Ferrer Calvin.
In her commemorative message with the theme “Rizal: Alaalang Iingatan, Yaman Ngayon ng Bayan”, CDA Maria Agnes Cervantes, urged Filipinos to embody Dr. Jose Rizal’s patriotism and perseverance, as the country marks the 126th anniversary of the national hero’s passing.
In her message, Chargé d’ Affaires Maria Agnes Cervantes reminded the FILCOM of how Rizal helped enlighten Filipinos oppression and corruption under colonizers. CDA Cervantes emphasized the significance of the life of Rizal to modern day heroes, or the OFWs, and how they can look up to Rizal to live up to being heroes and model Filipinos even if they are living and working in foreign lands. She then lauded the sacrifices of the OFWs to provide and ensure financial freedom for their families back home. END
