PH Consulate General in Chongqing Commemorates Rizal’s Legacy

CHONGQING 02 January 2023 – The Philippine Consulate General in Chongqing celebrated Rizal Day on 29 December 2023 at its multi-purpose hall. With the theme "Rizal: Pundasyon ng Kahapon, Isinasabuhay Ngayon," the event highlighted the importance of upholding the values that national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal, espoused.
In his opening remarks, Vice Consul Adrian G. Miras emphasized the privilege and responsibility Filipino diplomats have in representing their country and promoting Rizal's principles, as they serve as bridges between the Philippines and other nations, tasked with promoting mutual understanding, fostering peaceful relationships, and advocating the welfare of Filipinos abroad.
As part of the celebration, a brief film showcasing Rizal's life was screened, providing a glimpse into the visionary's journey and contributions to the Philippine’s nationhood.
A moving rendition of Rizal's poem, "Sa Aking mga Kabata," read by Jeremy Pascasio, son of Cultural Officer Arlene Pascasio, followed the film screening. His heartfelt reading resonated with everyone present, reminding them of the profound impact Rizal's words continue to have on the Filipino people. The Consulate General’s personnel, on the other hand, read a poem to honor Rizal’s legacy as a beacon of hope and liberty for present and future generations of Filipinos.
The participants shared their views on Rizal's legacy in relation to the Department of Foreign Affairs' core values of patriotism, integrity, professionalism, excellence, and service. The engaging discussion highlighted the enduring relevance of Rizal's teachings and their integration into the Consulate General's diplomatic and consular endeavors.
“Today, as we reflect on Rizal's life and legacy, let us renew our commitment to our noble mission. Let us draw inspiration from his courage, intelligence, and unwavering dedication to our nation.
