PH Embassy in Jakarta Commemorates the 127th Anniversary of the Martyrdom of Dr. Jose Rizal

JAKARTA 02 January 2024– The Philippine Embassy in Jakarta commemorated the 127th Anniversary of the Martyrdom of Dr. Jose Rizal in a wreath laying ceremony led by Philippine Ambassador to Indonesia Gina A. Jamoralin at the chancery bringing together all Embassy personnel, including those from Embassy’s attached agencies, and locally hired personnel on 30 December 2023.
To commemorate the life and works of Dr. Jose Rizal, Dr. Rizal’s poem titled “Canto del Viajero” (“Awit ng Biyahero”) was read by Third Secretary and Vice Consul Maricar S. Yambao during the ceremony. All personnel were also enjoined to watch the documentary “Jose Rizal, Sa Landas ng Paglaya” from the National Historical Commission of the Philippines.
In keeping with the theme for this year’s commemoration: “Rizal: Pundasyon ng Kahapon, Isinasabuhay Ngayon” (Rizal: Foundation of the Past, Living Today), Ambassador Jamoralin shared how Dr. Rizal showed his patriotism through his life and work.
“We owe our freedom to Dr. Jose Rizal, and as a token of our gratitude, we commemorate his martyrdom yearly.”, said Ambassador Jamoralin, reminding personnel that Dr. Rizal’s patriotism and ideals shall continue to inspire the minds of today’s leaders in shaping the future of the country. END
